About Dr. Joan Rose

Dr. Joan Rose earned her Medical Degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA in 1981 after completing her undergraduate degree Phi Beta Kappa with High Distinction in Physics from the University of Virginia in 1978.  She completed her internships at Deaconess, Harvard Surgical Service in 1982 and her residency at Deaconess, Harvard Surgical Service from 1982 to 1987. In addition Dr. Rose has completed Hand Fellowships at Tufts University, and overseas in Switzerland and Germany.  She currently serves as an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School and is board certified in Hand Surgery.

As a Hand Surgeon for the past 20 years, Dr. Rose has treated all ages from babies with congenital birth defects to adults with degenerative arthritis.  Other special interests include nerve and tendon release, fractures and trauma.  She is professionally associated with the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American College of Surgeons, the Medical Society of Virginia and the Virginia Beach Medical Society.

Dr. Joan Rose enjoys bike rides on the boardwalk, yoga, watercolors and can be seen walking puppies for Guiding Eyes for the Blind Puppy Raising Program.
